Facebook: How to sign out of Messenger

Facebook Messenger is one of the most popular apps created for chatting and calls (video calls included). It is easy to use and comes with many emojis, gifs, and more. But many users get confused when they want to sign out of Messenger. If you are among them, keep reading. We will show you how to do just that.

Signing Out of Messenger on Android

In some cases, Androids are easier to use than iOS devices. One useful thing is the Apps menu from the settings allowing the user to control the apps without getting to them. All that needs to be done to sign out of Messenger is to go to the settings and choose the apps option.

Once there, look for Messenger. Tap on it to open the app; an App Info tab with options like Mobile Data, Storage, and Uninstall will show up. Tap Storage Options, which will take you to the storage details of the Messenger app. There are a couple of further options, Clear Data and Clear Cache. Tap Clear Data, which will remove all the data the app has stored on the device and sign you out.

Sign Out from Messenger Using iOS Devices

The iOS layout for the app settings is similar to Android but does not have an option like Clear Data. You cannot sign out of Messenger using the app settings. You will need to go into the Facebook app to perform this task. If it is not on the device, you can install it to sign out of Messenger. Here's what you have to do, log in to the Facebook app with the account that has to be separated from Messenger.

The menu has a list or hamburger icon on the bottom of the screen. Next, tap on the Settings & Privacy option and choose settings. You will see the Security and Login tab, which will take you to the list titled Where You're Logged In. It contains a list of all the devices you logged in with your Facebook account. The list will show the device name, such as the iPhone 8 Plus or Samsung SM-J250F, in bold; below that, it will show the platform, either Facebook or Messenger.

If you cannot find your device name on the provided list, check to See More. Once you get to the desired device, tap the three dots icon right to the title having the Messenger written beneath it, and tap Log Out. Finally, you will be moved out of Messenger, and the device will be removed from the list.

This method could also be used on Androids if the app settings are not preferred. There are only minimal differences, such as the menu option on the top on Androids.

Singing Out from Messenger on Facebook.com

Here's how you can use an iOS device without the Facebook app. Go to Facebook.com and open the settings from the dropdown menu under the arrow in the top right corner. Jump into security and login, check the Where You're Logged In list, choose the device with the Messenger written under it, tap the three dots icon and log out. The device name will disappear as it happens in the Facebook app method.
