This may come as a shock for many, but most affordable Apple Watch, Apple Spot Watch actually has the best display, and that way it outplays the other models, Watch and Watch Addition.
All three models are beautifully designed, and that’s what all these three watches have in common, but of course, there are some major differences, and one of them is the display technology. The Apple Watch Sport has the ion-x display, while the other two models, Watch, and Watch Edition, has the sapphire crystal displays.

According to the latest report, done by DisplayMate, research group, the Ion-X display preforms better than sapphire crystal glass display. Dr. Raymond Soneira, CEO and President of DisplayMate published the report and rated both displays as “excellent”, but in certain categories, the most affordable Apple Watch Model, Apple Watch Sport outperforms the other two models, especially when it comes to ambient light and large viewing angles.
“While sapphire is incredibly hard and scratch resistant, the Lab measurements have demonstrated that it significantly affects the optical performance of (emissive) smart watch displays compared to glass, particularly in high ambient light and for large viewing angles. This behavior is very different from sapphire as it is used in traditional watches, which work by light reflection and not by display emission.”, Soneira explains.
Soneira said the sapphire industry definitely needs to work on the sapphire optical properties, and to modify them, without affecting its mechanical properties, and with the traditional Anti-reflection coatings, it cannot be done.
He also added: “A specially treated enhanced sapphire will soon be available that delivers both high scratch resistance and low reflectance.”
If you are planning to buy a Watch, or the Watch Edition, you may experience some slight issues only when the light is extremely bright, but still, their sapphire crystal displays are excellent. On the other hand, if your choice is the Apple Watch Sport, you will definitely have less issues, which is important especially when you go out for a bike ride or a jog.
